FINANCIAL REPORT for Rally in Solidarity with Catholic Sisters, May 29, 2012
Dear Financial Supporters of the Rally in Solidarity with Catholic Sisters,
First of all, thank you very much for providing your financial support for this rally. We never could have imagined the outpouring of generosity from so many to enable us to hold an event to honor the Catholic sisters who have meant so much to all of us. Many of you also attended the rally, but for those who couldn't make the trip from Montana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and the many other places where you live, we offer the rally report, speeches and photos here on our website.
If you have an interest, we would welcome a paragraph or two (or more) from you about a sister or congregation(s) you particularly appreciate. We'd post it on the "Thank You, Sisters" blog with your name and we'll send the link to the congregation. Feel free to announce this to friends and in the communities you're part of.
We raised a total of $2,195.15 with check and cash deposits of $765 and Paypal deposits of $1,430.15. We are still tallying our expenses, but the rough total of our expenditures was $1,322.87. The expenses we've tallied so far include:
We will send the balance of donations to Support Our Aging Religious (SOAR), a national fund that has helped to fund retirement for American sisters since 1986.
You may also continue to support the sisters by signing the petition being circulated by Nun Justice. They are seeking to get 57,000 signatures on the petition they will deliver on June 13th to the U.S. Bishops when they meet as a body in Atlanta. They need about 3,000 more signatures.
Finally, you may have heard that the LCWR came out with a statement on June 1st responding to the Vatican Assessment. On June 12th, LCWR representatives will meet with Cardinal Levada, Archbishop Sartain and other members of the delegation about next steps. We plan to set aside time on June 12th to pray for open, honest, and respectful dialog that moves the conversation in a direction of reconciliation and unity. We invite you to do the same. In doing so, you may want to consider using the LCWR Prayer -- God's Spirit that is attached.
Thank you again for supporting the rally, and please stay in touch with us through our website.
In solidarity and hope,
Linda Donaldson
