Against Human Trafficking |
LCWR passed its first resolution against human trafficking in 2001, and stayed focused on alliances and actions that cause change. The need is huge, to save 100,000 child-victims in the sex trade, hundreds of thousands of trafficked women, children, and men. Trafficking happens in all 50 USA states.
But there are footholds. President Trump on 4/12/2018 signed bipartisan legislation that paves the way for victims of sex trafficking to hold websites accountable for knowingly facilitating sex trafficking. Bill sponsors said that the legislation and a recent indictment had effects even before the president’s signature: “We’ve already interrupted 87% of the global ad volume. Thirty-plus websites and online platforms have either shut down or had major policy changes.”
